A specialist Coin & Medal Valuation Day will be taking place at a Birmingham based auctioneers on Wednesday 29 July. Fellows & Sons valuers will be joined by Charles Riley, a distinguished numismatist who will be able to offer expert and specialist advice.
Charles Riley has over 30 years experience in collecting and valuing coins and medals and will be available between 10am and 4pm to help identify and value any coin or medal you may have. All valuations are free, with no obligation to enter the item into an auction.
Recent auctions have seen some great prices being achieved for coins; a Charles ll Guinea dated 1672 sold for £410, whilst a Henry Vl Groat, annulet issue (1422-30), Calais Mint (S.1836) sold for £160. Medals have also fared well with a Second World War Distinguished Service Medal which was awarded on 11th December 1945 ‘for services during the War in Europe’ selling for a staggering £950.
Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows & Sons, said: ‘Coins and medals continue to grow in popularity with collectors competing fiercely for items in good condition with rarity value. Our next sale on 7th September already has some exciting Roman and nineteenth century gold British coins. We are expecting a lot of interest from potential buyers both from home and abroad’
As well as coins and medals, people are welcome to bring any other items they may have hidden away for a free valuation from one of their many specialists. Fellows & Sons specialise in jewellery, watches, silver, furniture and toys.
The valuation day will take place at Fellows & Sons in Augusta Street, Birmingham between 10am and 4pm. If you are unable to attend on the day, please visit their website www.fellows.co.uk/coinvaluation for more information about how to submit a request for a valuation.
