Floral Features in the Jewellery Quarter

Along the Floral Trail, you will come across three features in the Jewellery Quarter including: -

Soup Tureen – St Paul’s Square
Inspired by the legacy of Matthew Boulton, the soup tureen represents the type of silverware, which was not only manufactured in the Quarter during his life but continues to be made in the Quarter today.

John Baskerville Island Bed in Warstone Lane Cemetery
Type Events, an organisation aimed at publicising the world of print are currently working on a project relating to Warstone Lane Cemetery and recently produced a film about John Baskerville, type founder, printer and writing master.  The long-term objective is to create public art in the catacombs area of the cemetery in celebration of John Baskerville.

The Disability Services Employment Preparation Team at Nechells Green Garden Centre carried out the planting.

Pen Nib & Ink Well at the Pen Museum
During the 19th Century, 75% of everything written in the world was with a ‘Birmingham’ pen.  Birmingham was at the forefront of this trade, employing thousands of people in many pen manufactories located in the Quarter.

Set in the atmosphere of a former Victorian pen factory, the Pen Room Museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of this trade.

Designed by the Disability Services Employment Preparation Team at Nechells Green Garden Centre, the inkwell feature will be displayed outside the Pen Room Museum on Frederick Street and also celebrates the fact that Matthew Boulton manufactured inkwells!  For more information about the EPT click here.
