Creative Republic

Creative Republic was formed by a group of people who are involved in the creative and cultural industries in the West Midlands.

Creative Republic is setting up a lobbying and representative group for all those working in areas including advertising, architecture, arts and antiques, crafts, design, digital media, designer fashion, film and video, music, performing arts, publishing, theatre, radio, tv and software, and applied arts for those involved in other ways that aren’t listed here.

The creative sector is worth £1 billion to the region’s economy. Recent research has suggested that the region could see 250,000 new jobs in the creative and cultural sector over the next seven years. Creative businesses make the place vibrant, interesting and an exciting place to live and work. However, it sometimes feels as if issues that affect us as an industry are overlooked by people and organisations that have the power to help and support us to grow, as well as those responsible for many areas of what the West Midlands is all about. To date there’s nobody speaking for us collectively to make our opinions heard. We’d like to see that change so we’ve set up Creative Republic to be that voice.

What We Do
We’re just starting out, but this is something we’ve been working on for two years.
We’ve been busy getting involved in things like the Birmingham Big City Plan, the Regional Economic Strategy, and other high-level decision making that goes on often behind the scenes.

We want you to join us if you’re in or are interested in the creative or cultural industries, but first we’re working on a package of benefits that you would receive when you become a Creative Republic member.

We’re keen to bring people in the sector together so we’ll be putting together a series of exclusive events featuring exciting speakers, new venues, networking opportunities and much more besides.

Basically, Creative Republic comes down to three things:
1.  Representation and lobbying
2.  Networking
3.  Commissioning research
