To do justice to the Quarter a visit for the day is recommended however if you want to indulge in shopping avoid Sunday when most shops are closed and if you want to visit on Monday please note that some of the Galleries and Museums are shut.

 Listed below are attractions with suggested timescale for visit – all attractions area free.

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, Vyse Street
Step back in time into an old jewellers factory and learn about the history of Birmingham’s jewellery trade. The Museum often has workshops aimed at children and various learning activity materials available. It was recently voted in the top 3 of European Free Attractions by Trip Advisor! (allow 1½ hours)

Pen Room, Frederick Street
A Museum that celebrates Birmingham’s place in the late 19th Century as a centre of the world pen trade – make your own pen nib, write with a quill and enjoy the fascinating displays. The Pen Room at various times hold workshops aimed at children and also have various learning and activity materials available (allow at least 45 minutes.)

Warstone Lane and Key Hill Cemetery
Pick up a copy of the Dark Trail leaflet from the Jewellery Quarter Information Centre in Vyse Street (open Tuesday – Saturday inclusive) and enjoy these historic Cemeteries where many of Birmingham’s influential people are buried ranging from the Chamberlain Family to Harry Gem (inventor of Lawn Tennis) to Alfred Bird inventor of eggless custard! Both cemeteries have interpretation material by their entrances. (allow 1 hour)

Walk the Pavement Trail (Newhall Hill, Frederick Street and Newhall Street)
Try and spot the slabs in the pavement which unlock some of the fascinating facts about the Quarter (allow 30 minutes).

Shopping for Jewellery
Everybody likes jewellery whether young or old and with over 100 specialist retail outlets in the area this is the place to buy jewellery (allow at least 1 hour browsing and buying time before the children become restless!)

Jewellery Quarter Information Centre
This is situated in Vyse Street by the Jewellery Quarter clock. It is generally open from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive (Telephone: 0121 604 7700). The Information Centre has a variety of leaflets about the Quarter and the Information Centre Manager is always happy to offer advice and guidance.
