THE 1886 EXHIBITION OF LOCAL INDUSTRIES AND NATURAL HISTORY

This exhibition, presented by Birmingham Library and Archives Services as part of the Matthew Boulton Bicentenary and Advantage West Midlands’ Celebration of Imagination, looks at one of the most important public demonstrations of Birmingham’s industrial prowess: The Exhibition of Local Manufactures and Natural Historyheld at the Bingley Hall in 1886. The exhibition also looks at Birmingham’s pioneering role in the development of industrial exhibitions in Britain, from the Bingley Hall in the 19th century to its modern counterparts, the National Exhibition Centre and the International Convention Centre. The 1886 served as a national nad international showcase for many of the most noted firms based in the Jewellery Quarter including Elkington & Co, T& J Bragg and The Associated Manufacturing Goldsmiths and Jewellers.
